Optical Process Monitors
Polestar offers a full line of optical sensing products for measuring oxygen (O2), pH, and carbon dioxide (CO2). Our sensing technologies are incorporated into conventional probes or minimally invasive platforms.
Polestar’s DSP series transmitters allow universal measurement of any of these parameters. Sensors can be sterilized by steam, autoclave, or gamma radiation.
Polestar’s DSP series optical process monitors include automatic temperature and pressure compensation as well as a proprietary AGC ™ (automatic gain control) to optimize readings and maximize se
nsor lifespan. Polestar’s DSP optical process monitors are suitable for use in a range of environments, including laboratories, pilot and production plants, as well as outdoors. Applications enabled by the robust, non-electrode design include the following: pharmaceutical and bioprocessing; regenerative medicine; food, beverage, and brewing; and environmental monitoring.
Polestar’s DSP optical process monitors utilize either fluorescence lifetime (O2) or ratiometric fluorescence analysis (pH, CO2) to measure the parameter of interest. Because they are inherently self-referencing, both of these detection approaches eliminate the potential for measurement error arising from changes in sample turbidity, refractive index, viscosity, or color. This ensures stable, drift-free calibration and hence reliable measurements throughout the lifespan of a sensing element. Polestar’s sensors, whether incorporated into stainless steel probe configurations, welded onto disposable bioprocess bags, or applied to flow cells or puncture probes, are solid-state, with no fragile membranes or filling solutions. Unlike electrodes, they exhibit no electromagnetic emissions and can be stored dry.
Pre-set calibration factors can be uploaded using a conventional USB flash drive, which can also be used for local storage of process run data. All monitors are designed for easy installation and operation. They feature a large, easy-to-read, four-line VFD display and intuitive, menu-driven software. All sensing elements are shipped pre-calibrated. Users simply upload the calibration constants from a USB flash drive.
Polestar offers the only 4 channel monitoring system for measuring O2, pH, and CO2 simultaneously.

Single Use Sensors
Polestar Technologies offers a variety of robust, accurate single-use (disposable) sensors. There is a clear and growing trend toward single-use sensors, which offer many advantages, including more convenient set-up and cleaning time, reduction of validation burden, and cost savings. These sensors eliminate concern over contamination and are an affordable option to standard sensors.

The sensing elements can be configured in a wide range of form factors, from conventional probes to minimally invasive platforms, and in all measurement parameters, including O2, pH, and CO2. All of our sensors, probes, and platforms are designed to be interchangeable within the full family of products. Sensors, probes, Peel and Stick™ patches, and integrated Disposable Optical Transducers (iDOTS™) work interchangeably with our DSP optical process monitors and fiber optic cables. Communication protocols include RS232/485/Modbus®.
